As a software developer specializing in .NET Framework applications for Windows, I want to explain why we no longer develop software for operating systems older than Windows 10. The reason is straightforward and important for all users to understand:
Microsoft, the company that creates both Windows and the .NET Framework, has ended support for older versions of Windows like Windows 7 and Windows 8. This means they no longer provide security updates or technical support for these older systems.
When we develop applications using .NET Framework 4.8, we rely on the latest features and security improvements that come with more recent versions of Windows. By focusing on Windows 10 and newer, we can:
- Ensure better security for our users.
- Take advantage of the latest performance improvements.
- Use newer technologies that aren’t available on older systems.
- Provide a more stable and reliable experience.
Think of it like trying to use a modern smartphone app on a very old phone. The old phone might not have the necessary capabilities to run the app properly or securely.
By supporting only Windows 10 and newer, we can create better, safer, and more efficient applications for our users. It also encourages users to keep their systems up-to-date, which is crucial for maintaining overall computer security and performance.
We will endevour to release our older software under the iDump brand with Windows 7+ compatibility where possible.
On the product page, this will be indicated by the following information in the product description.

Statement of Exception – Windows Operating System Support
This software is designed to install and function on Windows 7 SP1 and Windows 8.1 systems. However, official support is limited to Windows 10 and Windows 11 only, in alignment with Microsoft’s current operating system support policy.
Supported Configurations:
- Windows 10 (all supported versions)
- Windows 11 (all supported versions)
Unsupported but Compatible:
- Windows 7 SP1 (installation and basic functionality available)
- Windows 8.1 (installation and basic functionality available)
Important Notice: While the software may install and operate on Windows 7 SP1 and Windows 8.1, these operating systems are considered end-of-life by Microsoft and no longer receive security updates. Users operating on these platforms do so at their own risk. Technical support, bug fixes, and updates will not be provided for issues specific to Windows 7 SP1 or Windows 8.1 environments.
We strongly recommend upgrading to Windows 10 or Windows 11 to ensure optimal security, performance, and access to full technical support.
